Holly Bik

Holly Bik is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Georgia (with a joint appointment in the UGA Institute of Bioinformatics). Her research focuses on the biodiversity, evolution, and ecology of microbes in marine sediments, with an emphasis on eukaryotic taxa and deep-sea ecosystems. Research in the Bik Lab uses high-throughput -Omics approaches to rapidly expand the understanding of ecological and evolutionary patterns in free-living marine nematodes, with a focus on deep-sea phylogeography, eDNA biomonitoring and characterization of host-associated microbiome patterns. Her research stands at the interface between biology and computer science and her software development work focuses on the reproducible, open source bioinformatics workflows and novel, exploratory data visualization tools.
